Sports—Transgender participation
468. Hon Michelle Hofmann to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer to the
increasing concerns of parents and players about the risks faced by girls of
competing in sporting competitions with transgender individuals.
(1) Does the government recognise that
allowing biological boys to compete against biological girls in female-only
sporting categories is a significant deterrent for some girls to playing sport?
(2) Given that the International Olympic
Committee has determined to limit the Olympic women's categories to biological
females, will the government support sporting competitions that wish to do the
same?
