(1) - (2) It is assumed that the reference to the "Federal water accord" relates to the Australian Government's National Water Initiative (NWI) and therefore the questions have been responded to on that basis.
Prior to the November 2007 Federal election, the Commonwealth Government announced funding of approximately $67.6 million for Western Australia from the Australian Government Water Fund. The grants were provided via three funding programmes:
Water Smart Australia (WSA)
$41.3 m (GST Exc)
Raising National Water Standards (RNWS)
$ 1.5 m (GST Exc)
Community Water Grants
$24.8 m (GST Inc)
TOTAL
$67.6 m
(3) As per the response to Questions 1 and 2 above, none of the funds were used to finance the stage three 'Harvey Water' pipe project.
(4) State Government funds were used through the Water Corporation as part of a trade
with Harvey Water. Harvey Water sold part of its entitlements to water in the South West dams in return for money to purchase and install piping in its open channels. The water saved from the piping was traded to the Water Corporation for its potable water supplies. With the inclusion of water to be made available from the Logue Brook dam, there will be a total of 17.1GL of water permanently traded for potable water use.
(5)
The documents prepared to assist the Government in its decision on Logue Brook Dam have been available to the public since December 2007. A letter from the DoW, dated 3 January 2008, provided an update to forum participants on this project. These documents can be located on the DoW's website, under 'Water Management' then 'Projects' and then 'Logue Brook'.
(i) Not applicable.
(6) I have already responded to questions and queries on this subject and I will continue to do so.
