Firearms—Buyback program
547. Hon Phil Twiss to
the minister representing the Minister for Police:
I will start by
apologising for this being a firearms question but there are a few other
members in the other house who I could not ask questions to today.
I refer to the most
recent firearms voluntary buyback scheme. Sorry, the wording of this question
is a bit interesting. I refer to all the voluntary firearm buyback schemes
implemented associated with the Firearms Act 2024 ,
including the recently announced voluntary buyback schemes 4.0 and 5.0.
(1) How many of the firearms acquired under the
buyback scheme were from licensed firearms dealers?
(2) How many were licensed firearms?
(3) How many were unlicensed firearms?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
I think the member
has acknowledged there is a bit of word salad at the top, so I hope the answer
does address what he has been asking. The following answer has been provided to
me by the Minister for Police.
The voluntary
buyback scheme 3.0 was the only buyback for licensed firearms dealers. An
answer was prepared to the honourable member's question on all the voluntary
firearm buyback schemes. See question C379, as this includes the figures from
the voluntary buyback scheme 3.0.
(1) There were 11,646.
(2) There were 11,646.
(3) There were zero.
