On behalf of the parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Disability Services I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Minister for Disability Services received the report of the Allied Health Taskforce on Workforce Issues on 14 August 2002. (2) The minister requested a response from the Disability Services Commission by the end of last year. (3) The Disability Services Commission conducted a thorough analysis of the allied health task force report during the period August to December 2002. A response to the recommendations that pertain to allied health services for people with disabilities was completed by the Disability Services Commission in January 2003. The issues associated with the provision of therapy services for people with disabilities are significantly different from the issues in allied health service provision for people with medial needs. Officers from the two departments have been collaborating to prepare a consolidated response that will recognise the differences in the frameworks of service provision in these two areas and not compromise the needs of either group in any way. The two departments are now working collaboratively to develop an integrated response to the task force report. (4) April 2003.
