PUBLIC TRANSPORT —
WI-FI SERVICES — HUAWEI
896. Dr M.D. NAHAN to the Premier:
I
have a supplementary question. I note that the Rockingham train station, which
will be part of a future Huawei wi-fi telecommunication network as part of the
Public Transport Authority, is within a few kilometres of the Garden Island
naval base. Has the Premier notified the Australian government of the national
security risks of this network?

As I said before, a free wi-fi trial
is on offer at the Subiaco and Elizabeth Quay train stations and on two buses
on the 950 route. I did not say anything about Rockingham train station. The
Leader of the Opposition has probably never been to Rockingham train station. I
know Rockingham train station well. I do not think it is some sort of hub of an
international spy ring trying to infiltrate our Navy base. Maybe there are
other ways of conducting espionage that do not use Rockingham train station.
Maybe, if the People's Liberation Army wants to spy on HMAS Stirling ,
it will go to the car park in front of my house. Maybe it will do it from
there. Therefore, I have not informed the federal government about a trial that
is not going to happen at Rockingham train station or about an issue that has
been created in the Leader of the Opposition's head.
