The answer provides broader data from the scheme's inception to June 2020, but directs the questioner to the Commonwealth for specific 2019 figures.

I refer to the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (Commonwealth Powers) Bill 2018, which received the Royal Assent on 5 December 2018, and I ask: (a) how many applications from Western Australia were submitted in the 2019 calendar year; and (b) how many of those applications were approved in that same year?

(a) A breakdown of the total number of applications relating to abuse which occurred in WA and submitted in the 2019 calendar year must be sought from the Commonwealth National Redress Scheme Operator. However the most recent data released by the National Redress Scheme operator to the States indicated that in the period from when the Scheme became operational on 1 July 2018 until 5 June 2020, a total of 1204 applications had been received from WA.
(b) Of those, 674 WA applications remained in progress as of 5 June 2020 and 316 was the total number of payments which had been made in response to WA applications. Payments made is different from payments approved, and it is to be noted that applicants have six months in which to accept an offer of redress.
