QuestionView source ↗

(1) I refer to the promise made in the 2005/2006 budget that motor vehicle registration fees would be reduced by a flat $25, and as this reduction is not specifically shown on the registration renewal forms, will the Minister advise how this fee reduction is calculated?
(2) On which component of the registration fee is the reduction made?
(3) Does this mean that pension card holders and seniors will receive the promised fee reduction, or will they miss out?
(4) As neither the original cost of the registration nor the reduction is specifically shown on the renewal form, how will the community recognise that they have, in fact, received a real reduction in the cost of their registration fee?

This concession is available to cars and wagons of up to 3 tonnes and is deducted automatically if the registered owner pays the private rate on their licence and third party insurance policy. This concession amounts to a $25 reduction in the licence fee component for vehicles used solely for family purposes. (2) The private use vehicle licence fee component of the total vehicle registration fee. (3) The vehicles of pensioners eligible for this concession can be licensed at the family rate if they meet the use and weight criteria referred to in (1) above. In accordance with Regulation 21PB(3) of the Road Traffic (Licensing) Regulations 1975, the family use concession in the licence fee is applied after the licence fee has been reduced by all other applicable exemptions and concessions. (4) By comparing, on the renewal notice, both the concessional licence fee with the standard licence fee.
