My question is the same that I asked yesterday. I was asked to put it on notice but I gave notice that I would like to receive an answer. I refer to the Attorney General’s decision to release Martin Rapaera Marks. (1) Is it part of Marks’ release program to attend the cinema? By parenthesis I should say that the Attorney General has said something of this sort on television. (2) If so - (a) is the Attorney General aware that Marks has previously assaulted his victim in the cinema? I would have thought that the Attorney General would have known that. (b) has the person accompanying Marks been advised of his previous offending? (3) What steps have been taken to prevent another assault while he is in the cinema? (4) What steps have been taken to ensure the safety of members of the public during Marks’ cinema outings? (5) Has the Attorney General declined Mrs Margaret Hunter’s request to meet him? I would have thought the Attorney General would know the answer to that. (6) If so, why; and if not, when will he meet her? I would have thought the Attorney General would know the answer to that. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I have been given notice of a question but it did not have the argumentative comments that the honourable member has engaged in. Notwithstanding that, I will not engage in argument with the member. I do not want to describe the member in the way that he should be described. I will give the answer. Hon Peter Foss: Hooray! This is new. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: Unlike the argumentative member when he was a minister, my colleagues and I give answers and we continue to give answers. Hon Peter Foss interjected. Hon NICK GRIFFITHS: I did not. The member is so stupid in some of his interjections. I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Attorney General provides the following response - (1) Mr Marks’ community access is for rehabilitation. Decisions about activities undertaken is a consultative process between Mr Marks and his treatment team. (2) (a) I was not provided with any information about the location of offences being in a cinema. (b) All staff accompanying Mr Marks for any purpose are fully aware of the circumstances of his offences and psychiatric history. As members of his treatment team, those escorting him are familiar with his progress. (3) Risk to any staff or community member is assessed prior to each outing. Mr Marks is escorted by trained staff at all times during leaves of absence. (4) See the answer to (3). (5)-(6) I have met with Mrs Hunter on two occasions recently.

I refer to the Attorney General’s decision to release Martin Rapaera Marks. (1) Is it part of Marks’ release program to attend the cinema? Mr Marks is escorted by trained staff at all times during leaves of absence. (4) See the answer to (3). (5)-(6) I have met with Mrs Hunter on two occasions recently.
Hon NICK GRIFFITHS replied: I have been given notice of a question but it did not have the argumentative comments that the honourable member has engaged in.
