Environment—Pinjarra air quality
1024. Hon Jess Beckerling to the Minister for the
Environment:
I refer to the
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation's Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Campaign, Pinjarra report.
(1) Will the minister please table the terms of
reference and parameters for the study?
(2) Was Alcoa given the opportunity to comment on
the study's terms of reference parameters or methodologies and, if yes, why?
(3) Have any studies been conducted into the
effect of the chemical cocktail or the combination of multiple chemicals in the
air above Pinjarra and the impact of this combination on people and the
environment?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
(1) Yes. I table those documents.
(See paper 774 .)
(2) No.
(3) A health risk assessment is designed to
estimate the risk to a community from exposures to substances of concern and
takes into account all relevant factors and chemicals. A HRA is being
considered by the independent Environmental Protection Authority as part of its
assessment of the Pinjarra alumina refinery revised proposal and bauxite mining
on the Darling Range for the years 2023 to 2027.
