(1) What steps has the Government taken to exit from the contracts to supply new gas-fired electricity generation to the West Kimberley? (2) Does the Government intend to call for tenders for the development of a 48-megawatt tidal power station at Derby? (3) If no action has been taken on either of these election promises, why not? Hon TOM STEPHENS

The question would be more appropriately addressed to the Minister for Energy.  The election commitment was that the contract would be reviewed and if the question is directed to the Minister for Energy the member will have the opportunity to receive a full reply. The PRESIDENT:  If there is confusion as to the regional responsibilities of ministers, and there obviously appears to be, it is important that questions are framed in such a way that they ask the minister what impact there may be on his specific portfolio.  The question would have been in order had it been recast to seek information from the Minister for the Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne in his specific portfolio area.  As this problem is likely to occur when members question ministers with responsibilities for regional areas, I point out that the way members couch their questions is important.
