I refer to job creation in the South West region, and I ask: (a) in view of the fact that up to 200,000 extra jobs could be needed in the South West by 2050, what is the South West Development Commission doing to facilitate the creation of new jobs in the region; and (b) how many new jobs were created in: (i) 2012-13; (ii) 2013-14; and (iii) 2014 to date?

(a)-(b) It is not possible to accurately identify the number of new jobs created as a result of the activities of the South West Development Commission. However, in the past three years the SWDC has engaged in a substantial number of activities designed to maximise job creation in the region, including;
2012-13:
· Implemented Manjimup SuperTowns Economic Development strategy
· Surfers Point redeveloped
· Implemented South West Events Scheme
· Funded first stage of the Margaret River Perimeter Road
· Facilitated funding of initial design of Preston River diversion to allow expansion of Bunbury Port.
· The Culinary Journeys of Western Australia food and wine promotion in Jakarta.
· The Bunbury-Jiaxing Business Office supported to assist trade and inbound investment opportunities.
· The movie Drift premiered in the region and theatrically released in Australia with associated tourism literature.
· The inaugural Emergence Creative Festival was held in Margaret River to showcase creative industry opportunities.
· The South West Workforce Development Plan 2013-2016 was released.
· A plan to guide efforts to strengthen the region's tourism industry was released.
· A Critical Horizons seminar explored the future of ecotourism in the region.
· Contributed to the City of Bunbury Creative lighting project.
· Completed construction of the Bunbury free WiFi service
· Hosted three inbound trade delegations.
2013-14:
· Completed Busselton Airport expansion business case.
· Commenced planning for expansion of marine facilities in Bunbury.
· Hosted nine delegations from overseas trade partners.
· Implemented the South West Events program.
· Supported CinefestOz expansion and Emergence Creative Festival.
· Facilitated trade discussions with Vietnam's Consul to Western Australia.
· Completed business cases for aged care expansion.
· Contributed to National Landscapes Tourism Initiative and South West Cruise Ship Alliance.
· Continued support to the Southern Forests Food Council.
· Commenced development of the South West Film Friendly Strategy.
· Completed business planning for an Aboriginal Culinary Training Facility.
· Commenced the South West Agricultural Transformations Study.
· Promoted the region's food, wine and tourism opportunities in overseas publications such as Silver Kris (Singapore Airlines Inflight Magazine).
· Completed draft Blueprint for the South West.
· Organised trade delegations to attend the Margaret River Gourmet Escape.
2014-15 to date:
· Implemented South West Events Scheme.
· Signed an MOU with three other partners to support the development of a Digital Animation Centre in Bunbury.
· Signed a co-operation MOU with the Jiaxing Department of Commerce to facilitate trade and investment between the two areas.
· Organised trade delegations to attend the Margaret River Gourmet Escape.
· Continued to support the Bunbury Jiaxing Business Relations Office providing investment information to China.
· Commenced studies to reduce headworks for water and fire infrastructure costs to development projects in the South West.
· Hosted two delegations from overseas trade partners.
