I refer to the removal six weeks ago of Mr Michael Moodie as chief executive officer of King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. (1) Why is Mr Moodie’s secondment to the Health Department still not finalised? (2) What is causing the delay? (3) Why has the Metropolitan Health Service Board demanded that Mr Moodie sign indemnity and secrecy clauses when he has supposedly been seconded to another agency? (4) Is it true that the Premier and Cabinet have become involved in the negotiations? (5) Why has the minister not resolved this matter, which is both costly and embarrassing to the Government? Mr DAY

(1)-(5) I thank the member for providing me with the opportunity to inform the House that agreement has been reached between Mr Moodie, the Metropolitan Health Service Board and the Commissioner of Health concerning Mr Moodie’s secondment to the Health Department. The secondment agreement between the three parties was signed yesterday. Effective from today, Mr Moodie will occupy the position of executive general manager, finance and infrastructure within the Health Department for 12 months. Mr Ripper: Has he been gagged? Mr DAY: No, he has not. Mr Moodie will be treated the same way and will have the same rights and obligations as every other state government employee. I am delighted the matter has been finalised. I have made it clear publicly that resolution of this issue has taken much longer than I would have preferred. I was prevented by the provisions of the Public Sector Management Act from getting directly involved in determining the outcome. However, I am pleased to say that I have played a role in bringing the parties together and in ensuring that a commonsense approach has been taken. The Premier has also played a role in that process. I am delighted that the matter has been finalised. The SPEAKER: Order! When I was away, someone sent me a facsimile about an article in “InsideCover”, and it was interesting to read the version of events as quoted by the member for Joondalup. Member for Joondalup, big softie is back. I give the member for Joondalup the call.
