Urban tree canopy—Household rebates
3. Hon Tjorn Sibma to the Minister for the Environment :
This is the minister's
very first question in this portfolio, so I promise to go easy on him!
I refer to the government's $10 million election
commitment to double Perth's urban tree canopy to 30% by 2040, including
its pledge to offer $150 in yearly rebates to households to purchase native
trees, to a total cost of $6.9 million.
(1) When will the household rebates become
available?
(2) Over what period will the program run?
(3) Will the rebates be means tested, and if not,
why not?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question and I appreciate that it came from him. I can
provide him with the following answer on my own behalf!
(1)–(3) The Department of Water and
Environmental Regulation is collaborating with the Department of Planning,
Lands and Heritage, which is leading development of the urban greening
strategy, to deliver the program. Additional information on the rollout of the
program will be available in due course.
