I thank the member
for the question.
(1)–(3) I am really happy to have the
opportunity to talk about our plan for maternity services for the women of Western
Australia. We are very proud of the work we are doing to build the new women's
and babies' hospital at the Murdoch campus. It is something that obviously our
side of Parliament has been working towards for some time. Despite the opposition
and the member making the state election a referendum about the location of
that hospital service, the people of Western Australia overwhelmingly endorsed
our plan to build that hospital at the Murdoch site, and we are getting on with
it thanks to my colleague the Minister for Health Infrastructure.
As part of our plan, we are not
just delivering that hospital. We also announced that we would undertake
upgrades to Osborne Park Hospital, including putting in place a family birthing
centre. I know that the people I represent in the northern suburbs and other
members in this place are very excited to see those maternity services come to
fruition. We are also building 2,000 car bays at the Murdoch site. Our plan recognises
that women in the southern suburbs, regional areas and the northern suburbs of Perth
all deserve access to the maternity services they need.
In relation to the issue the
member raised, we are continuing discussions about those matters and when we
have something to say about it, we will.
