My question concerns the William Street component of the Perth metropolitan rail construction. (1) Has the Environmental Protection Authority carried out an assessment of the soils and any contamination in the area? (2) If so, what were the volumes and categories of the contamination? (3) Was the assessment carried out before the contract was tendered? (4) Who is responsible for the contamination? (5) Will the minister table the results of the assessment and analysis? (1)-(3) As a condition of approval of the Perth to Mandurah south west metropolitan railway, the Public Transport Authority is required to ensure that it prepares a contamination assessment and management plan and a construction management plan. The management plans have been prepared and submitted to the Department of Environment. The department has advised that further information is required for the proponent to meet its commitments concerning contamination. (4) The Public Transport Authority and its contractors are responsible for managing any soil and/or underground contamination relevant to the William Street component of the Perth metropolitan rail construction. (5) The conditions of approval require the plans to be publicly available when finalised.
