BUS RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM — INFRASTRUCTURE
114. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the Minister for
Transport:
I refer to the minister's claim yesterday that it would be easy
to upgrade the bus rapid transit way because all the infrastructure would be in
place to convert the busway to a light rail system. What infrastructure was the
minister referring to; was it —
(a)
the tracks;
(b)
the overhead wires;
(c)
the railcar sets; or
(d)
none of the above?

I am sure the member is smarter than that! Let us start with what we

Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Let the minister speak. This is a multiple-choice answer, minister.
Mr D.C. NALDER : The argument that has been used in the
paper and by the opposition is that buses get caught in traffic. We have said
that there will be a dedicated lane. We have said that there will be
specialised stations and stops.
Point of Order
Ms
R. SAFFIOTI : I asked whether
the tracks, the overhead wires or the railcar sets is the infrastructure that
can be used —
The
SPEAKER : I think you also
added or ''none of the above'', and I think he is answering that.
