In the budget papers at page 1062, no funds are allocated in 2001-02 for laptop computers for teachers. However, during the estimates hearing on Thursday, 18 October, Mr Mance stated that funds were available from another source, not shown in the budget papers, sufficient to fund teachers’ laptops for purchase at the end of 2001 and for the beginning of 2002. (1) Where is the money coming from? (2) How much is being used to purchase these computers in this financial year? (3) How much money does the Department of Education have in the internal fund referred to by Mr Mance? (4) Where are details of this private fund to be found in the 2001-02 budget papers? Hon G.T. GIFFARD
