I refer to Synergy's website and the Latest Insight tab, which features energy-saving tips for the summer period posted on 15 February 2018, some 77 days after the start of summer, and the use of imagery from the cartoon television series titled The Simpsons , and ask: (a) did Synergy pay any licence fees for the use of imagery of The Simpsons : (i) if so, what did it cost; and (ii) if no, does Synergy have permission to use the imagery of The Simpsons ; (b) is the use of a United States produced animation of The Simpsons on a Government website consistent with the Government's Western Australian Jobs Bill 2017; and (c) what are the titles of the personnel in Synergy who approved the use of The Simpsons animation?

(a) No. (i) Not applicable. (ii) Permission to use the image is obtained through crediting the source of the image. The image was sourced from Giphy.com, used in accordance with their terms. Giphy.com have permission to distribute The Simpsons clips by the studio who regularly release the clips to their platform. (b) The purpose of the Government's Western Australian Jobs Bill 2017 is to use the State Government procurement process to enhance local industry participation in the supply of goods and services. The credited image was not used to sell a product or a service. It was purely a fun, visual reference used to reinforce the key message of the article, the last in a series of summer energy saving articles aimed to assist customers in saving electricity and decreasing the size of their energy bills. (c) Synergy’s Digital Marketing Manager and Social Media and Content Manager, both staff members based in Perth, Western Australia.
