ROAD TRAUMA TRUST ACCOUNT — AUDITOR GENERAL'S
REPORT
1442. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Road Safety:
Do I have that right?
Hon Sue Ellery : You have.
Hon TJORN SIBMA : I refer to
the seventh report titled Management of the road trauma trust account published by the Office of the Auditor General on 17 October 2023.
(1) Noting the damning
findings of the incompetent allocation and monitoring of enormous sums of money
from the RTTA and our tragically high road toll, what organisational and
leadership failures have led to this lamentable outcome?
(2) What will the minister do to
reform the mismanagement of the RTTA and reduce the state's road toll?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The Auditor General's report on the road
trauma trust account spanned the years since its last audit in 2012. This includes decisions made by the previous government. The government accepts
the Auditor General's findings and
recommendations. The Auditor General acknowledged that a broad reform program,
including a new governance framework, was already underway. Every dollar
from the RTTA is spent on measures to save lives and prevent serious injuries
on our roads.
