PERTH TO MANDURAH RAIL PROJECT - COMPLETION
Notice of the question was given on 10 May, during the last sitting week. I refer to the troubled but 65 per cent complete Perth to Mandurah rail project. (1) When will the project be 66 per cent complete? (2) Is the tunnelling equipment operating today? (3) If not, when will it recommence operating? (4) Will the minister inform the house of the current progress of the dispute over insurance matters? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Perth to Mandurah rail line is making strong progress and is now 67 per cent complete, which is no doubt troubling to the opposition. (1) As at 10 May 2006, the Public Transport Authority advises that the southern suburbs railway component of the New MetroRail project is about 67 per cent complete in terms of time, and 63 per cent of the total budget has been spent to date. The city project part of the southern suburbs railway is about 73 per cent complete in terms of time, and about 68 per cent of the total budget has been spent to date. (2) Yes. (3) Not applicable. (4) The dispute will be resolved in court proceedings that were initiated on 28 April 2006.
