(1) Yes. The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) has briefed me on the situation at the Canning Vale Waste Recycling and Recovery Centre. (2) The DEC has advised me that the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council has previously undertaken testing of compost material for the presence of pathogens in their compost. (3) The testing showed negative results for all pathogens tested. (4) No. (5) The DEC has engaged the services of the Chemistry Centre WA to investigate the composition of the gases in the odour. (6) Yes. The DEC and Department of Health have agreed on what measures are necessary to assess the health risk of the odour to the public. (7) In liaison with the Department of Health, the DEC has arranged for air testing to occur this week. Monitoring will be undertaken by the Chemistry Centre WA for compounds in the odour at the SMRC site and in residential areas adjacent to the site.
