ENGINE BRAKE NOISE — STANDARDS
(1) Has the engine brake noise limits in-service standard been introduced in line with the model laws endorsed by the Australian Transport Council in November 2007? (2) If no to (1) — (a) why not; and (b) when will the standard be introduced? (3) Will the government be introducing noise cameras to monitor and enforce the standard, and therefore improve amenity for local communities affected by truck noise? Hon SIMON O’BRIEN

(2) (a) Implementation in other Australian jurisdictions has encountered technical difficulties in enforcement of noise standards. (b) Implementation of the model legislation will be considered when the technical issues have been addressed. (3) Main Roads Western Australia is communicating with other states that are working through the legal practicalities needed to implement an enforcement regime based on a noise camera.
