(a) The BOCSAR research is new and provides further valuable information about the impact of alcohol on policing and the community. Elements of the design will be used in future WA studies, however the costs of alcohol related crime are already well known, through studies going back several decades and including recent local studies. Responding to these issues, rather than conduct of further research, is now the priority.
(b) WA Police have recently established a new Liquor Enforcement Division (LED), and significantly ramped up efforts around problem oriented policing responses to alcohol. Through joint initiatives with the Office of Crime Prevention, the LED includes new data analyst positions to target a much improved, intelligence-led response to alcohol related crime.
