FAMILY AND DOMESTIC
VIOLENCE — PEEL REFUGE
1466. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence:
I refer to my questions prior to
hearings with the Department of Communities for the 2018–19 budget
estimates and the answer received by the Standing Committee on Estimates and
Financial Operations on 5 June 2018 in which the minister informed the
committee that a further family and domestic violence refuge in the Peel region
would be operational by July 2019.
(1) Is the refuge operational?
(2) If yes to (1), on what date did
it commence?
(3) If no to (1), why not, and what
is the revised commencement date?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) No.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) The Peel
refuge is planned to commence operations in November 2020. The refuge will be a
therapeutic refuge focused on women with co-occurring mental health and
substance abuse issues. Stakeholder engagement was conducted to develop the
therapeutic service model to meet the needs of these women and inform the
facility design. This impacted the operational time line, but has resulted in
the development of an innovative service model, the first of its kind in
Western Australia.
