Royalties for Regions
596. Mrs Kirrilee Warr to
the Premier:
I refer to the Chamber
of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia's pre-budget submission calling for
a review of the Royalties for Regions program to ensure it delivers genuine
additional investment in regional WA.
(1) How does the Premier respond to industry's
concern that his government's misuse of Royalties for Regions is undermining
confidence, trade and investment across Western Australia?
(2) When will the Premier stop his government's
wasteful spending on vanity projects and ensure regional communities have the
support they need after eight years of neglect?
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members! Members, thank you.

Mr Roger Cook: An $188 million hospital in the member's
electorate. I do not know what the member is referring to when she is referring
to wasted dollars in the regions. I hope she is not referring to an $188 million
hospital in her electorate.
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt, I would
like to remind you that you are on two calls.
Mr Roger Cook: Royalties for Regions is a very
important program that we stand by more than the Liberal Party does; it has
never liked Royalties for Regions. We think it is a very important program.
That is one of the reasons it has been preserved under my government, and it
continues to be utilised to ensure that people in regional Western Australia
can enjoy the benefits of it.
