(a) All teacher librarians in public schools must have a teacher qualification recognised by the Department of Education and Training and registration with the Western Australian College of Teaching. Teacher librarians in secondary schools have a degree in education, and most often a degree in a subject discipline, followed by a specialist qualification in library studies, such as the Graduate Diploma in Science (Information Studies). Teacher librarians in Primary Schools must have an initial qualification in primary education and usually, but not necessarily, have completed a specialised qualification such as the Graduate Diploma in Science (Information Studies).

(c) No formal qualifications are required of library officers. However, many have experience working in community libraries.
