OUT-OF-HOME CARE
55. Hon ALISON XAMON to the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Child Protection:
(1) As of 6 May 2021, how many
children are currently in out-of-home care?
(2) How many of the children in
part (1) are First Nations children?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
member for some notice of the question.
(1) On 30 April
2021, there were 5 349 children in the care of the chief executive officer of
the Department of Communities.
(2) There are 3 053.
To maintain consistency of
statistics across both the housing and child protection portfolios, Department
of Communities statistics are provided at the end of each month. This ensures
that the statistics are always easily comparable from year to year and month to
month.
