TRANSPERTH — CARBON TAX
1059. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to question without notice 1020.
(1) Why has
the government not been able to make a decision on the timing and impact of the
carbon tax removal on the fare structure in the two months since it was repealed?
(2) Considering
there was a specific increase in Transperth fares due to the carbon tax, why
are fares not simply being reduced by the same amount?
(3) Once the
government has determined what the reduction in fares will be, will SmartRider
users be reimbursed back to 1 July 2014?
(4) If no to
(3), why not?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1)–(4)
The government is still considering options to remove the effect of the carbon
tax on Transperth public transport fares. This consideration includes the
implementation date for the new fare structure, the specific value and the
mechanism to return some value to customers.
