PRISONS —
ASBESTOS CONTAMINATION
336. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the Attorney General representing
the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to media reports that all but four of the state's
prisons have some form of asbestos contamination and that three prisons have
high-risk asbestos contamination.
(1) Has the
Department of Corrective Services called for a tender to address the threat of
high-risk asbestos at Hakea, Roebourne or Pardelup Prisons and if not, why not?
(2) Is the
Minister for Corrective Services aware of the tender called by the Department of
Agriculture and Food to remove asbestos from pig pens at the Medina research
station?
(3) Will the
minister explain why one department in his government can take action to remove
asbestos but his own department will not?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The Minister for Corrective Services advises as follows—
(1) A tender
process has been finalised and the contract awarded for the removal of asbestos
at Hakea Prison, Pardelup Prison Farm and Roebourne Work Camp.
(2) The member
should direct this question to the Minister for Agriculture and Food.
(3) Please refer
to the response provided to question (1).
