I refer to the Biosecurity and
Agriculture Management (Agriculture Standards) Regulations 2013.
(1) If eastern
states table grapes are imported into Western Australia, will those imported
grapes be required to meet the minimum maturity standards for grapes under the
current Western Australian agriculture standards?
(2) Will eastern
states importers of table grapes be required to contribute to the cost of
inspections for compliance with the minimum maturity standards for grapes?
(3) What
modelling has been undertaken by the Department of Agriculture and Food in
regard to the potential impact of the importation of eastern states grapes on
the Western Australian table grape industry?

(1) Eastern
states table grapes imported into Western Australia will be required to meet
the minimum maturity standards for grapes under the current Western Australian
agriculture standards.
(2) A fee for
service is collected on all grapes sold in Western Australia, including
imported grapes. Part of the fee for service contributes to the cost of
inspections for compliance with the minimum maturity standards. This fee for
service is collected under the Western Australian Agricultural Produce
Commission Act 1988.
(3) No modelling
has been undertaken by the Department of Agriculture and Food in regard to the
potential impact of the importation of eastern states grapes on the Western Australian
table grape industry.
