HOMELESSNESS
563. Mr A. KRSTICEVIC to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Rather than asking local governments and ratepayers to foot the bill to deal
with the homelessness issue, when will the Premier show some leadership and
deliver coordinated outcomes from a state government level?

It would be fair to say the Liberal
Party seems somewhat subdued today.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members, I wish
you would be subdued, too!
Mr M. McGOWAN : One would
almost think there is a little bit of division over there. Some people who have
moved to the left and right flanks do not look too happy, and some people have
moved to the front flank who might have been promoted too early.
In my answer earlier, I outlined a range
of things to the member. I will outline them to the member again because he
obviously did not listen. I think what happens with the member is that he is
too busy concentrating on the supplementary question to listen to the answer
that I am giving. We have provided $89 million to deliver specialist services,
crisis accommodation, housing support and outreach for those sleeping rough. We
are developing the first 10-year homelessness strategy across Western Australia.
The member should note that I have not attacked non-government organisations.
The Leader of the Opposition attacked NGOs when she was in government.
An opposition member interjected.
Mr M. McGOWAN : The member
said rubbish. Alright, I will prove it to him. I will find the quote later; I know
it is here somewhere. The Leader of the Opposition basically said that the NGOs
get all the support they need and that if people are homeless, they are not
doing their job. That is what she said in 2015. I do not say things like that. I actually admire the work that non-government
organisations do. They are essentially made up of people who are not
paid a lot of money and who do good work for the community. I am not going to
attack them like the Liberal Party did. I note once again that we have a very
subdued and lacklustre Liberal Party in Parliament today.
