On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes. (2) The speed limit on Cowaramup Bay Road between Bussell Highway and Caves Road was originally unposted; hence, the state maximum open limit of 110 kilometres an hour applied. In late 2004, following a number of requests, Main Roads WA applied a speed limit of 100 kilometres an hour to the central section, with a speed limit of 80 kilometres an hour on the approaches to Bussell Highway and Caves Road. The Armstrong Road intersection falls within the 80-kilometre-an-hour speed zone. Around this time and to enhance safety, the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River also installed additional warning signs at the intersection and widened the intersection at Cowaramup Bay Road and Armstrong Road. On 26 July 2006 Main Roads received, via the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, a petition from Armstrong Road residents requesting a reduction in the 80-kilometre-an-hour speed limit on Cowaramup Bay Road near Armstrong Road. This request is being investigated.
