I refer the minister to his answer to question without notice 128 in the Legislative Assembly on 31 March in which he stated that the Parliament and the community are entitled to see the information that forms the basis of a government decision. The minister also indicated that failure to release information demonstrates unaccountability, arrogance and a failure of political integrity. In light of the Government’s views I ask - (1) Why, on 4 and 9 March, did the minister decline my request to table Western Power information that formed the basis of the decision to impose power restrictions on 18 February? (2) Will the minister meet his own standards of accountability and table now all information available on 17 February that was used to make the decision to impose power restrictions and, if not, why not? Hon TOM STEPHENS

The minister advises as follows - (1)-(2) As the member should be aware, I tabled on 4 March advice I received from Western Power. As the House is aware, a review into the events that surrounded the supply system emergency situation is nearing completion. The review committee is reviewing and testing all relevant information, including that which led to calling the supply system emergency. The committee is scheduled to report on its findings in April. Hon Peter Foss: What about the Parliament? They are civil servants. The PRESIDENT: Order! The minister has the call. Hon TOM STEPHENS: These findings and the committee’s recommendations will be released publicly at that time.
