I refer the Minister for Police and Emergency Services to the acquittal of the four men who admitted to kicking and bashing Leon Robinson in an attack, from which he subsequently died, on Christmas Eve 2002. (1) Has the minister been advised either formally or informally by any member of the Western Australia Police Service that new charges should be laid against the self-confessed attackers of Mr Leon Robinson? (2) Can the minister confirm that the police have asked for an appointment with the Director of Public Prosecutions to discuss the possibility of laying fresh charges against Leon Robinson’s killers? (3) Is the minister aware that the appointment was set up by the police and was cancelled at the last minute by the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions? Mrs M.H. ROBERTS

(1)-(3) I certainly am aware that the Police Service is very concerned about the acquittal in the Leon Robinson case. It has made me aware of that concern and I do understand that it sought an appointment with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
