ROBERT TAYLOR — APPOINTMENT —
OFFICE OF THE TREASURER
981. Mr B.S. WYATT to the Treasurer:
I ask a supplementary question. I
ask again: why does the Treasurer need to employ somebody for $118 000 for six
months' work when he already has a team of advisers to do that job?

AnswerView source ↗

I do not have a team of advisers.
Mr B.S. Wyatt :
Yes, you do.
Dr M.D. NAHAN : I
do not.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Members!
Dr M.D. NAHAN : The
budget is the seminal most important document this government puts out.
Mr B.S. Wyatt : Why
did you employ someone full time?
The SPEAKER :
Member for Victoria Park, I call you to order for the third time.
Dr M.D. NAHAN : The
budget is the most important document —
Mr J.R. Quigley interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Butler, I call you to order for the second time.
Dr M.D. NAHAN : The
budget is most important document we put out every year. The public has a great
deal of interest in it.
Mr B.S. Wyatt interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Victoria Park!
Dr M.D. NAHAN :
This is a particularly difficult budget, and we also have a whole raft of
reforms associated with it, and they need to be communicated and discussed with
the media adequately. Rather than put a term-of-government person on, or a
whole team of term-of-government people, as Labor did—in fact, Labor
had media people crawling all over them—we put one person on, part
time.
