(1) Based upon the publicly released minutes of the Environmental Protection Authority’s board meeting of 21 November 2002, is it true that the EPA has recommended that 10.1.hectares of good and very good condition vegetation within the Underwood Avenue bushland should be protected from development for the time being?
(2) Is it true that the EPA also recommended that possible development of this 10.1.hectares should be deferred until 1.6 hectares of it had been rehabilitated to very good condition?
(3) Is the University of Western Australia correct when it states that the EPA had ‘provisionally agreed to expand the reservation to 9.7 hectares’?
(4) Is the Minister concerned that the University of Western Australia’s claims may mislead the public into wrongly believing that a certain position has been agreed to by the EPA?
(5) Why is the Minister not prepared to deny environmental approval for any of the Underwood Avenue bushland to the University of Western Australia?

(2) No. The EPA agreed that the additional 1.6 hectares should be rehabilitated from ‘good’ to ‘very good’ quality in a time frame preceding any development of the remainder of the proposal area. (3) I am unaware of how the UWA has derived the figure of 9.7 hectares. (4) Answered by (3). (5) The EPA has not provided me with a final report on either the previous subdivision proposal or the current proposal. It is therefore inappropriate for me to make a decision regarding any environmental approval until that time.
