The issue of the ability to deliver
maternal health services is long gone. All the general practitioners who were
providing delivery services that were required during the time of refurbishment
of the hospital moved their services to Swan District Hospital. Since that
time, we have tried to encourage them to go back to Kalamunda, but there is no
great interest there anymore. The opportunities are there and there are
opportunities for midwifery services to be provided there, and we think that
through that process we will be able to continue obstetric services. GPs are
welcome to manage a delivery service there, but at present there is not a great
deal of interest.
