In relation to the Minister’s public comments once the
Criminal Investigation Amendment Bill 2009
was defeated, that over the next two to three months, we will see more and more violent attacks in Northbridge and at railway stations where weapons will be used, I ask:
(a) if the Minister has actual evidence or intelligence of planned, escalating violence and particular weapons, doesn't the Minister have a duty to ensure the over 500 police available in the inner-city to prevent violence are deployed;
(b) if the Minister has actual evidence or intelligence of planned, escalating violence and particular weapons, don't existing laws empower the police to act;
(c) has the Minister cut funding to police and programmes in the inner-city and will this impact on the number of violent attacks; and
(d) is the lack of work on the water filled site of the new Northbridge Police Complex yet another symbol of your failures in policing?

a)  The Commissioner of Police is responsible for the deployment and allocation of police resources state-wide. Resources are principally allocated at a District level and District Superintendents deploy these resources within their District to provide the best possible policing service to meet operational requirements and the varying needs of the community.
b) Yes, police have certain powers available to them to search persons reasonably suspected of carrying weapons.
c)  No. There has been no reduction in funding to police and programmes in the inner-city. The Central Metropolitan District, which is principally responsible for policing the inner city area has seen an increase in funding for the 2010 - 2011 financial year, compared with the previous year.
d) The Department of Treasury & Finance, Building Management & Works awarded the Perth Police Complex construction tender to BGC on
25 August 2010
.  Commencement of onsite construction works were delayed due to issues obtaining dewatering licenses. On 10 January 2011 dewatering of the site and soil removal commenced.
