I thank the member for some notice of this question. I am pleased to inform the House of the new initiatives that are being taken by the State Government through the Disability Services Commission to support people with disabilities and their families in the South West Region. The State Government has pledged almost $35m in growth funding over the next five years. The Commonwealth Government has also come to the party and is providing an additional $14.7m for unmet need for the first two years. This translates over the next two years alone to $8.93m for appropriate accommodation options for an additional 198 people, $3.2m for professional and therapy services aids and equipment for an extra 1 588 people, $7.55m for respite and family care packages for an extra 780 people, $5.14m for post-school options or alternatives to employment for an extra 428 people, and $700 000 for local area coordination services for an extra 389 people statewide. During this financial year the State Government will provide more than $167m to the commission for services for people with disabilities and their families and carers, and by 2005 this will have risen to more than $200m.
