Housing—Rent bidding
990. Hon Tim Clifford to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Commerce:
I refer to the
answer I received to question without notice 958 on 23 October. We were
informed that no breaches of the new rules around rent bidding have occurred.
Given that Consumer Affairs Victoria has issued 90 fines worth a combined
$750,000 since rent bidding was abolished in 2024, I ask the following.
(1) How many full-time employees, or FTE
equivalent, are working on the covert and overt operations to enforce the rent
bidding ban?
(2) How many overt and covert operations have been
conducted since the changes to WA's tenancy laws?
(3) Has there been any correspondence between the government
and the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia about the covert and overt
operations, and, if so, can this correspondence be tabled please?
