FIREARMS ACT — REFORM
843. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Minister for Police:
I refer to the Consultation
paper: Reform of firearms laws in Western Australia .
(1) Is the
minister aware of errors in this document; for example, the suggestion that an
individual may hold six firearms when the maximum is five?
(2) Given this
and the likelihood of other errors, will the government correct the document
and extend the consultation period as requested by the more than 11 700 people
who have so far signed a Legislative Council petition requesting the extension
of that consultation period?

(1)–(2) I
thank the member for his question. If there are any issues or comments to be
made or observations or submissions to be made with respect to the consultation
paper, I urge anybody in the public to make that submission. If the person has identified something such as a typo or
something of that description, feel free to get on to the Western Australia
Police Force website, go to the email address and make a submission. This is the opportunity. This is a consultation
paper following almost two years of consultation, more than 100 meetings
with individuals, peak bodies and stakeholders and multiple meetings with
representative groups such as the Western Australian
Firearms Community Alliance and the Primary Producers Firearms Advisory Board. Almost two years' worth of
consultations, deep consultation, have led to this consultation paper.
It is an opportunity now to make a submission. I urge everyone to get in there
and do that so it can inform the police as they finalise the draft bill.
