Swan River ferry service—Expansion
741. Hon Steve Martin to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Transport:
I refer to plans to
put the Swan River ferry service expansion Applecross location on the west side
of Canning Bridge, and a preliminary design survey for the Canning Bridge Bus
Interchange, closing on 26 September, showing a proposed ferry terminal
location on the east side of Canning Bridge.
(1) What is the status of the development of the
Applecross location?
(2) What is the plan for accommodating sufficient
parking at the Applecross, west side, option?
(3) Has the government considered the merits of
building just one ferry location instead of the two?
(4) If yes to (3), what is the result of those
considerations?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(4) The development application for
the Applecross ferry terminal has been submitted and the public comment period
will open in October. The Applecross terminal will be well served by the
high-frequency bus routes that operate along Canning Highway as well as the
Mandurah rail line. A future Canning Bridge terminal will complement the
Applecross terminal, serving as an intermodal connection with bus and train
services for commuter passengers. The Applecross terminal will continue to
support high-density living in the area, as well as tourism along the
riverfront area.
