I refer to the cessation of the South West Emergency Care Inc services which provides emergency care for vulnerable children in their own homes in the South West region and ask:
(1) Why has this important service been terminated from the Lower South-west region?
(2) Why has more funding not been made available for this service to continue in order to assist our most at risk, vulnerable children with emergency care within the regional lower south-west community?
(3) Has the lower south-west been grouped into the Albany zone for emergency care and the ensuing three hour travel response time, as opposed to the much closer Bunbury zone?
(4) If so, how can this be justified given that families in distress will not be able to afford the cost of travel?
(5) Why is it that the South West Emergency Care Incorporation and concerned community members must negotiate with the Department of Community Development, Albany Office for services that will obviously be difficult and ineffaceable to implement in the lower south-west region?

2. South West Emergency Care receives recurrent funding of $116,584 per annum. The Department does not have additional recurrent funding to increase this amount. However, children who are at risk and vulnerable may be able to access this service by referral through their local Department for Community Development office. 3. Manjimup, Bridgetown and Greenbushes are part of the Great Southern (that is, Albany) district area, but people living in these communities may be able to access services from South West Emergency Care by referral through the local Manjimuip office of the Department for Community Development. 4. As they may be able to access the service through referral from the local Manjimup office travel to Albany should not be necessary. In the event that travel is a hardship, clients may apply for financial assistance through their local Department for Community Development office. 5. This is not the situation, as arrangements can be made through the local office in Manjimup.
