Currently the
Drive Safe Handbook
distributed by the Department for Transport encourages drivers to allow a minimum of two metres overtaking clearance when overtaking a cyclist at speeds of over 70 km/h, and I ask:
(a) is the Minister prepared to introduce legislation to make the minimum of two metres for overtaking a cyclist at speeds a legal requirement for drivers doing speeds in excess of 70 km/h:
(i) if yes, when does the Minister intend to introduce this legislation; and
(ii) if not, why not?
