I refer to the Evidence Act 1906.
(1) Does the Attorney General
propose to amend the act and for what purpose?
(2) Is the Attorney General
currently drafting a bill to amend the abovementioned act?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Attorney General.
(1)–(2) A
new evidence bill is currently being drafted to, amongst other things,
modernise and introduce uniform provisions into the Western Australian
jurisdiction and to give effect to the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia's
recommendations in project 112. It is intended to replace the Evidence Act
1906.
