I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The omnibus
categories were changed in July 2016 to administratively reduce the number of
omnibus categories and simplify licensing requirements.
(2) The cost of
this change to operators was $43 for the issue of a pair of omnibus
numberplates. However, these were issued free of charge to operators for the
first year between July 2016 and June 2017. The cost to the government was $3 199,
which was the cost of the one-off production of the plates.
(3) From July
2019, all taxi plates, taxi-car licences, regular passenger transport and
charter vehicle licences will be replaced by a single passenger transport
vehicle authorisation. PTVs that do not do rank or hail work will have the
option of having standard numberplates affixed or continue to have plates that
identify the vehicle as an on-demand charter vehicle.
(4) Operators who
wish to use CVL plates will pay $29. This is a saving of $15 on current CVL
plate fees. Costs to the government are recovered through fees and charges.
