Hon Dee Margetts questions the Minister for Environment and Heritage regarding the Geraldton Port Authority's environmental monitoring during dredging, specifically concerning water quality trigger levels for photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) and the implementation of the environmental management plan. I refer to the Geraldton Port Authority’s environmental monitoring response commitments, which are documented in the public environmental review for the Geraldton port enhancement project and the GPA’s subsequent environmental management program. These documents specify alert and action water quality trigger levels for photosynthetic active radiation over seagrass meadows during dredging operations. (1) On what date was the alert trigger level for PAR first exceeded and notified, and will the minister table the records of that notification? (2) What action was taken when the alert trigger level for PAR was exceeded? (3) On what date was the action trigger level for PAR first exceeded and notified, and will the minister table the records of that notification? (4) When was the minister advised that the project was not meeting its water quality criteria and that action was required under the environmental management plan? (5) Which, if any, of the management actions prescribed in the environmental management plan for excessive turbidity were implemented, and were they effective? (6) Were any measures prescribed in the environmental management plan not implemented; and, if not, why not? Hon TOM STEPHENS

I thank the honourable member for her question and the unspoken preamble that sang the praises of this Government for its focus and concentrated effort to ensure that the City of Geraldton and its community have available to them such strong opportunities for economic growth. As the member for the area, I am sure Hon Dee Margetts would like to celebrate this in much louder terms than she was able to articulate in the unspoken preamble to her question. The PRESIDENT: Order! Is the minister trying to acquaint me with the fact that it might have been a leading question? Hon TOM STEPHENS: I am not. The Minister for the Environment and Heritage has provided the following response to the articulated question - Providing the information in the time required is not possible and I request that the member place the question on notice.
