I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) Subsequent to the inquiry by Mr Greg Joyce, a country service working group was established. This was chaired by the chief executive of WA Country Health Service and included representatives of St John Ambulance and the volunteers. The working group has provided a forum for improving the delivery of ambulance services in country areas, including the regionalisation of the St John Ambulance management structure, additional investment in country ambulance services, the development of a community paramedic model, and improved clinical coordination. The 2009 inquiry included a public consultation period. The follow-up country working group that developed the country recommendations had wide country ambulance service representation, including volunteers. (2) St John Ambulance is currently undertaking a full review of the service provided to Mr John Banks. The Minister for Health has requested a copy of the report of this review as soon as it is available. This report will also be reviewed by the Office of Safety and Quality in Healthcare in the Department of Health prior to any decision being made regarding the release of the report. Mrs Banks will be contacted first to discuss the outcome of the investigation. (3) The contract negotiations are currently in the final stages.
