NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT — REGIONAL DELIVERY MODEL
(1) Will the minister confirm that the $19 million announced in December 2007 to support the natural resource management regional councils in Western Australia will be available in the 2008-09 budget? (2) Does the minister still support the regional delivery model for NRM in Western Australia? (3) If yes to (2), what funding will be provided to assist the regional NRM bodies in 2008-09? (4) Given that the Australian government has announced through the Caring for our Country program approximately $20 million to support the regional groups in WA, will the minister confirm that the Western Australian government will provide matching support to the regional groups? (5) Is the minister aware that delays in announcing funding or reduced funding to regional groups will have a substantial impact on large numbers of community NRM groups and volunteers and on the momentum of the projects they are undertaking? (6) If yes to (5), will the minister state what measures the government is putting in place to prevent such delays or reductions in funding? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank Hon Paul Llewellyn for some notice of this question. (1)-(6) The announcement made in December 2007 was for $119 million—not $19 million—to fund Natural Heritage Trust phase 3 over five years. I will be very happy to provide an answer to these questions and, indeed, have an excellent answer prepared. However, as the honourable member understands, he will have to wait until after budget day for me to provide that material.
