(a) The value of traffic fines collected by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) is as follows:
2005/06 $53,244,737
2006/07 $41,245,023
This includes multanova, red light and on the spot fines.
(b - c) The value of traffic fines issued by the WA Police 2005-2007:
2005/06 $69,253,011
2006/07 $57,470,858
2007/08 $54,890,804
Notes
:
· Due to data entry delays in entering On The Spot traffic fines onto police recording systems, the figure quoted for the period 2007-08 may be undercounted, as many fines issued in this period will not yet have been entered onto the system.
· The above information is taken from a point-in-time extract from the operational police infringement recording system(s), and excludes infringements that have been Cancelled, Withdrawn, or Renominated.
· The status of infringements can be changed at any time. As such, the above figures are presented as at 5 May, 2008, and may change for any future report.
· The value of fines issued includes any doubling of fines for failure to comply with a notice to nominate a driver under the "owner onus" legislation.
(d) - (e) DPI are not able to isolate speeding fines from all other fines. The amount of fines collected by PDI via multanova and red light cameras is as follows (this does not include on the spot speeding fines):
1998/99 $33,816,151
1999/00 $32,698,255
2000/01 $30,820,590
2001/02 $37,974,278
2002/03 $28,555,366
2003/04 $28,200,700
2004/05 $30,082,804
2005/06 $30,339,286
2006/07 $18,709,180
The decrease in the Multanova and Red Light infringements in 2006/07 was primarily due to delays by WA Police in issuing infringement notices as a result of backlogs in processing. The backlog was cleared late in 2006/07, which resulted in additional payments in 2007/08.
